Based on what I’ve seen and read so far, it would seem that
the biggest challenge that K-12 students face today is the bureaucracy of the
education system. It is no longer about the children and their futures. It is
about which schools are deemed “the best” based on test scores, which schools
have bigger budgets, etc. The focus has been completely taken off of the
students, and while the teachers and administrators focus more on their own agendas,
the education of the students falls by the wayside. It’s no wonder that people
are having to battle to get their students into good schools. They are so few
and far between that finding a good school within district requires a lottery
to get in.
The hardest part to deal with is the fact that teachers are
supposed to be advocates for the children. But all they care about is their own
problems, so the students are left to fight for themselves. “Waiting for
Superman” did a good job of showing the parents who would do anything to get
their kids into good schools. But here’s a question to ponder: Where are all
the other parents? How many are actually trying to help their kids get a real
education? And if they are not, then who is fighting for these children?
I feel for America’s younger generations. It wasn’t nearly
this bad when I was in school, and I truly hope it gets better. At the rate it’s going now, I’d hate to see
how our schools are run 20 years from now. I’d have to say that there is no
hope for the education of future generations. And that would be a crime.
I can tell that you feel really strongly about this subject
