When I read “How I Learned to Program Computers” by Feross Aboukhadijeh, I immediately liked the style of his writing. While it wasn’t very grammatically correct, it got his point across and kept me interested. To be perfectly honest, reading “How I Learned to Live Google-Free” by Joshua Romero was pretty boring. I was intrigued at first, but about halfway through, I was scrolling down to see how much more I had left to read. I just wanted it to be over. Feross’ style was more reader-friendly in my opinion. While it gave a lot of information, it wasn’t too extraneous. For more information, it gave you the ability to click on links if you wanted to. Don’t get me wrong, Romero’s article was good too, and had a lot of useful information; it just had a bit too much. However, I did like the charts, graphs and other visual aids that both models used. For my first paper, I think I could use different aspects of both models. I know that I need to adhere to an academic writing style, and I am hoping that it won’t put my readers to sleep. I really like the idea of using several visual aids to get a point across, as well as to break up the bulk of ongoing text. (I know that can be off-putting for some readers). I also like the use of headings to outline the different areas of discussion. I think that both models have good qualities that could come together and make a great paper.
I agree Jennifer, now as soon as I can figure out how to post my own blog I can relax. Thank you for your help in class today. Soon I hope to get it together. A little too much, too soon for me, but I'll figure it out.
ReplyDeleteGood observation about style and the use of graphics in the reading!
